Thai cuisine is increasingly popular in the UK with most towns and cities having at least one Thai restaurant. A Thai meal typically consists of one rice dish served with a variety of complementary dishes, making the meal a social and sharing occasion that is enjoyed by all.

It is a cuisine that can be divided into four regional styles, consisting of Northern, Northeastern (sometimes called Isan), Central and Southern.

Rice is an integral part of Thai cuisine, notably the fragrant jasmine rice which is indigenous to Thailand. Often steamed, it forms the ideal accompaniment for spicy Thai curries, aromatic stir fries and other dishes that contain flavoursome ingredients such as lime juice, chillies and lemon grass.
